My Papa and Lola were completely against using any form of a "transitional object" to pacify a whiny child, until I was born. It's not that I'm colicky or fussy around the clock, but I have this habit of scratching my face and twirling my hair when I get a little groggy, so my mom decided to invest in a "sleep aid" in hope to spare my locks and delicate skin.
I'd like you to meet my Pacimal, Jar Jar Binks. The Pacimal was created (by a doctor) for babies who haven't mastered the skill of hand coordination with small objects, such as a pacifier. On a scale of 1 to 5 -- 1 being "not interested" and 5 being "extremely attached" -- I'd say my relationship with Jar Jar is about a 2.5. Sometimes I love him, sometimes I leave him. I do love that regardless of whether or not I use the pacifier part, I get to hug my little pal until I fall asleep. The paci part is detachable, so it goes in the sterilizer with the rest of my bottles, and Jar Jar gets tossed in the spin cycle with my clothes. As soon as I grow out of this stage, my mom's going to snip off the pacifier all together, so that Jar Jar and I can continue to hang out without making me look like a 3-year old freak who still needs a binky (I hope!).
Nighty-night,
Iz
